Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup strawberry jam or filling
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add the eggs, melted butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out circles with a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters.
- Place the donuts on a floured baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- In a deep fryer or large pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Remove donuts and drain on paper towels. Once cooled, fill them with strawberry jam using a piping bag.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
