Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 cup whiskey (or bourbon)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine whiskey, brown sugar, and soy sauce. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and reduce until thickened, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties. Season with salt and pepper.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little olive oil, then cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
- In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
- While the burgers are cooking, sauté the sliced onions in a bit of olive oil until caramelized.
- To assemble, place the burger patty on the bottom half of the bun, top with whiskey glaze and sautéed onions, and cover with the top half of the bun.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!

Handy Tips
- For a spicier kick, add a splash of hot sauce to the whiskey glaze.
- Toast the buns on the grill for added flavor and texture.
- Let the burgers rest for a few minutes after cooking to retain juices.
Ingredient Swaps
- Ground Beef: Can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Cheddar Cheese: Swap for your favorite cheese, like pepper jack for a spicy twist.
- Whiskey: Replace with apple cider vinegar for a non-alcoholic version of the glaze.
