Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 3/4 cup cold milk
- 1 cup chocolate chips or chocolate batons
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
- Add the cubed butter to the flour mixture and cut it in until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the cold milk and stir until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, and shape into a ball.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Fold into thirds like a letter and roll out again. Repeat this process 2-3 times for flakiness.
- Cut the dough into triangles and place chocolate chips at the base of each triangle. Roll up from the base to the tip to form a croissant shape.
- Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for about 20 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the croissants with beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
