Ingredients
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 package (3.4 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
- 2 cups milk
- 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 1 cup chocolate shavings or chocolate chips for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by greasing it.
- In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs until well combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
- In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
- In another bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and milk until thickened. Fold in the remaining whipped cream.
- Once the cake has cooled, slice it in half horizontally. Place one layer on a serving platter.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture over the first layer, then add the second layer of cake on top.
- Spread the chocolate mousse over the top of the cake and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings or chips. Enjoy!

Handy Tips
- Make sure to let the cake cool completely before slicing to prevent it from falling apart.
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cake mix or chocolate pudding.
- Chill the mixing bowl and beaters for the whipped cream to help it whip up faster.
Ingredient Swaps
- Vegetable Oil: You can use canola oil or melted coconut oil as a substitute.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: For a lighter version, you can use half-and-half or a non-dairy whipped topping.
- Chocolate Pudding: Swap with homemade chocolate pudding for a fresher taste.
