Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup whole milk, warmed
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup jelly (your choice)
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Once risen, roll out the dough to ½ inch thickness and cut into rounds using a donut cutter.
- Let the cut donuts rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove donuts and drain on paper towels. Once cool, fill with jelly using a piping bag.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy!
